LEGO McLaren Senna makes its North American debut at E3 2019. Nearly half a million bricks travel from McLaren Technical Centre to Los Angeles

11 Jun 2019

  • Incredible 1:1 scale LEGO McLaren Senna makes its Public debut at E3
  • McLaren Senna, cover car of critically acclaimed Forza Horizon 4, to form part of all new LEGO themed game expansion
  • LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Senna playable in game, while LEGO themed world brings new races, unlockables and even a LEGO city to explore

The full-size 1:1 scale LEGO McLaren Senna makes its North American debut this week as part of Microsoft’s Xbox E3 presence at the renowned Los Angeles gaming show. Requiring close to half a million bricks to create and taking months to build, the car will be on display throughout E3 inside the Microsoft Theatre, Xbox’s home for all activities for the show.

The brick-built Senna moves the model-car game on in ways befitting an Ultimate Series McLaren. The statistics behind it are mind-boggling: in total, 467,854 individual LEGO® elements were used in its construction, which is almost 200,000 more bricks than were used to construct the 720S model of two years ago.

Working shifts around the clock, teams of up to 10 model-makers needed 2,725 hours to click together all the pieces for the LEGO McLaren Senna, nine times longer than it takes to produce each painstakingly hand-assembled real Senna (300 hours). Including design and development, a total of 4,935 hours went into creating the model, involving no fewer than 42 men and women from the LEGO build team.

Also announced at E3 - LEGO fans will be able to live out their ultimate McLaren fantasy thanks to new downloadable content.  As part of the Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions expansion, the McLaren Senna LEGO set will be fully playable in-game, with players being able to explore a new LEGO themed world, complete with new challenges, races and even an entire LEGO city.

Forza Horizon 4 sees players explore a stunning microcosm of the UK, with changing seasons, dynamic weather and on some of the best roads imaginable, all in native 4K and HDR. Announced last year at E3, the game features the McLaren Senna as its cover car, which is also playable (in non-brick form) in-game.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions launches worldwide on June 13 on Xbox One, Windows 10 PCs and Xbox Game Pass as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions will cost £15.99  and is included at no cost for players who own the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition, the Forza Horizon 4 Expansions Bundle and the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle. Xbox Game Pass members have access to the standard edition of Forza Horizon 4 and are eligible for 10% off a standalone purchase or 10% off the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle.

The company has defined product families: Sports Series, Super Series, Ultimate Series and Motorsport which are retailed through over 80 retailers in more than 30 markets around the world.

McLaren is a pioneer that continuously pushes the boundaries. In 1981, it introduced lightweight and strong carbon fibre chassis into Formula 1 with the McLaren MP4/1. As part of the Ultimate Series, McLaren was the first to deliver a hybrid hypercar, the McLaren P1™.

Announced at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2018, the company’s Track25 business plan will see it invest £1.2billion in research and development to deliver 18 new cars or derivatives by the end of 2025.

In 2018, the company launched the 600LT and the first two cars of Track25, the McLaren Speedtail, the next Ultimate Series, and McLaren’s first ever Hyper-GT, and 720S Spider. It also opened a new £50m McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield region in the North of England that will see it produce the next generation of lightweight carbon fibre ‘tubs’ that are at the heart of all McLaren cars.

2019 saw McLaren launch the 600LT Spider, the unveil of the previously-confirmed track-only Senna GTR and the new McLaren GT revealed as the fourth car of Track25.

To support the development, engineering and manufacture of its range of innovative sportscars and supercars, McLaren Automotive partners with world leading companies to provide specialist expertise, technology and solutions.
